“A good lesson is one where, at the end, the teacher does not realize that they have been teaching and the children do not realize that they have been taught.”
Julian Harel – Ready Steady Move! Teacher Trainer
The safe, encouraging and holistic nature of the Ready Steady Move! programs enables teachers to maximize their teaching abilities and the children to maximize their learning potential. Teachers hone their ability to create an environment in which the lesson is fun, with special focus places on watching, praising and correcting the children’s movement and language. Ready Steady Move! lessons are designed to encourage children’s self-confidence by asking them to contribute their movement ideas in order to create a shared experience.
We teach by example, having discovered that the more we explain how to do a movement, the less the children understand. While we have videos and DVDs of the movements, it is the teachers themselves who teach the children how to perform these movements using their own bodies as personal examples. This is also true when teaching empathy, respect and love – the core qualities needed to work with any children – by showing love, our teachers teach love. Children use their eyes, ears and bodies to follow the teacher, much as a dancer or a martial arts practitioner would. This creates a dynamic classroom environment full of nonstop activity that keeps the children alert, aware and motivated to learn for the entire lesson.
“Children are not the people of tomorrow, but are people of today. They have a right to be taken seriously, and to be treated with tenderness and respect. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be. The ‘unknown person’ inside them is our hope for the future.”
Janusz Korczak, educator, children’s author and pedagogue
The Ready Steady Move training program produces teachers who are able to keep children excited and engaged throughout each dynamic lesson, while creating the clear boundaries children need. Teaching thus becomes a delicate balance between encouraging the children to move, act and express more, while ensuring that they do so within the given framework of each lesson.
“We don’t stop – they don’t stop!”
You don’t need to be a movement professional to teach the program; however a background in athletics, dance, or one of the movement disciplines definitely helps, because our teachers go through extensive and ongoing training to improve and maintain their fitness and flexibility. As the courses progress, our teachers don’t just teach yoga and Pilates, they learn it too, becoming more adept movement teachers while improving their own overall fitness.
Teachers must be fully proficient in the language being taught and have successfully completed the Ready Steady Move! Blue training course, in order to start teaching any of the programs in the Ready Steady Move! family.
Ready Steady Move! Blue, Green and Orange are also available to be taught in German, French, Spanish, Hebrew, Russian and Mandarin. In order to teach the classes in these languages, the teacher must have the same valid credentials as for teaching English, as well as be fluent English in order to attend the teacher training course.
The Ready Steady Move! Blue training course is the first step in becoming an expert teacher. Further courses expand the teacher’s theoretical understanding of the programs, while providing hands-on experience with our innovative methodology and learning materials. These materials are available through the Helen Doron online network that includes the STREAM app, a unique information system that provides all the teaching materials needed to become a successful teacher.
